Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, have reportedly met with the WNBA in hopes of a potential expansion franchise. Adam Schefter claims that the pair are looking into this possibility to increase their sports ownership in the region.

The Mahomes’ have various sports ownership groups. In 2020, the NFL star joined the Kansas City Royals ownership group and owns a minority stake in the MLB franchise.

In the subsequent year, Mahomes joined the ownership group of the MLS team Sporting Kansas City.

The exceptional quarterback also has ownership stake in women’s soccer. He joined the NWSL’s Kansas City Current in 2023. This time, the couple wants to raise money to start a professional women’s basketball team in the city where he plays.

WNBA Commissioner looks to add more teams in the league
The WNBA will introduce a new team in 2025, the Golden State Valkyries. Apart from that, there hasn’t been any talk about another expansion team in the league.

That is until the Mahomes created a buzz by proposing a Kansas City-based women’s basketball team.
