The WNBA Rookie of the Year race has been fiercely competitive, with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese leading the charge. Throughout the 2024 season, both rookies have set new benchmarks, cementing their places as two of the league’s most promising talents.

Reese set a record for the most rebounds in a single season, while Clark shattered rookie records for points, assists and three-pointers.

Clark receives AP award

Caitlin Clark was named the 2024 Associated Press WNBA Rookie of the Year unanimously, and while the official league award announcement is still pending, she’s widely expected to secure the title.

“This recognition wouldn’t be possible without an incredible group of teammates and coaches, and we are looking forward to continuing an exciting regular season in the postseason,” she told AP.

Her dominance in the odds market was clear from the start, opening with -750 odds to win and soaring to as high as -5000 toward the season’s end, making her victory all but certain. If confirmed, Clark would be the second consecutive Indiana Fever player to win the award after Aliyah Boston in 2023.

Historically, 12 of the last 17 Rookie of the Year winners, including Clark, Boston, and Rhyne Howard, were No. 1 picks.

Clark stood out in rookie year

Clark’s first season was nothing short of stellar. Starting all 40 games for the Fever, she led all rookies with averages of 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, along with league-leading rookie stats in field goals made (242) and three-pointers (122).

She also set records as the first rookie to notch a triple-double and finished with the most points (769), assists (337), and 3-pointers ever by a rookie in WNBA history.

“I feel like I had a solid year but for me the fun part is I feel like I’m just scratching the surface,” she said. “I feel like I can continue to get a lot better.”
