Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, for some, is coming to the end of his career at the ripe old age of 35…but you wouldn’t know it based on his practice habits.
As the Chiefs and Kelce get set for their Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, the future Hall of Fame tight end is looming as a key piece for Vic Fangio to stop.
With some thinking that should the Chiefs win, Travis might ride off into the sunset, what head coach Andy Reid has revealed about the tight end’s practice habits might tell a different story.
“He goes 100 miles an hour, he wants to be in on every snap,” Reid said. “We monitor that but he wants to fight you when he has to come out. It’s the same way during games, so it doesn’t matter if it’s a walkthrough, if it’s full-speed practice, he wants to be a part of it and be in there. It’s not just when he’s getting the ball or being dialed up, it’s literally all the time. Again we try to monitor that so he can stay fresh through the season like we do the other players, but he lets it be known that he likes to be in there all the time.”

With Kelce having a down year statistically, posting his lowest receiving yards total (823), and fewest touchdowns (three) since his rookie season, some think that the Super Bowl could be the last time we see him on the field.
Of course how the result of the game lands could determine that, but going by Reid’s comments, Kelce’s practice habits haven’t slowed down and that is what has made him the player he is today.
But as for those retirement rumors? Maybe hold off just a touch.
