The San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy has been exceptional since coming into the league as the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. The second-year QB led the Niners to the NFC Championship last season. As a result of that, he was named the team’s starter for the 2023 season and the 24-year-old QB did not disappoint.
Purdy this season was at his absolute best as he diced up almost every defense that was in front of him. However, he still has a lot of critics and they resurfaced once again after the Niners got destroyed by the Baltimore Ravens in their week 16 matchup. His teammate and one of the best receivers in the game, Deebo Samuel called out the critics during his recent appearance on the Rich Eisen Show.
Samuel said when asked about his response to Purdy’s critics:
If you [are] a football guy and you’ve really watched the game, you know, he only threw one bad interception. Overall, we three three picks in the first half and it was still 16-12. That just shows you how good our team is.

Purdy threw four interceptions against the Ravens. However, according to Samuel, only one of those interceptions was Purdy’s fault. The others were just unlucky plays.
Despite his poor outing against the Ravens, Purdy still has had a great season. He racked up 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He finished with a passer rating of 113.0 and completed 69.4 percent of his passes. Purdy will hope to lead his team to Super Bowl glory.
Kyle Shanahan had high praise for his QB Brock Purdy
The San Francisco 49ers’ HC Kyle Shanahan had huge praise for Brock Purdy after a terrific season from the second-year quarterback. In the most recent installment of “49ers Game Plan,” an NBC Sports Bay Area program that aired on Friday night, Shanahan shared with Greg Papa the significance of Purdy to him this season and the success the team has enjoyed having him starting at center.

Shanahan said:
For him to stay healthy through this whole year, to go through all the stuff and really to have the type of year where [it] could have been an MVP-type year, still could be. He definitely played like an MVP.
Kyle Shanahan said
The 49ers won the division as well as the NFC’s top seed, thanks to the elite production of Purdy. They will have plenty of time to rest before playing their first postseason game at home. Purdy and company will hope to make a deep run in the postseason and lift the title in February.
