Angel Reese rants about social media days after mysteriously deleting her Instagram account
Angel Reese has said that social media backlash can be ‘too much sometimes’ after she deleted her Instagram account.
The WNBA star got rid of her account on the platform after receiving significant backlash for her New Year’s Eve outfit (it has since been re-activated).
And speaking on her ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast this week, she spoke about the ill effects of social media on her life.
‘It’s hard to accept the wins that you have because everybody is so negative about the littlest thing,’ she said.
‘It’s crazy. I feel like social media has killed so much, especially for this generation. I’m 22, let me live my life.’
Reese added that she wanted to understand her ‘purpose’ in 2025, and bashed the ‘negativity’ that social media can encourage.

Yeah we get all this stuff, but it’s so much negative too,’ she said. ‘The negativity, your life is out there.’
‘I think the hardest thing, like you said, people don’t understand how hard we work,’ she continued to her guest, Pretty Vee. ‘And I think it’s another thing like, as a black woman, being able to tap into both. I’m pretty and I play basketball. I can do both… people putting us in a box, not understanding we work hard for both.’
Pretty Vee later said she will ‘fast’ from social media for several days at a time, which drew an approving ‘yes’ from Reese.
However, Reese’s Instagram has been re-activated as of Friday morning.
The Chicago Sky player decided to delete her account after her revealing New Year’s look drew extensive backlash from fans, with one calling her look ‘disgusting.’
Others took issue with the outfit as they claimed Reese had only donned the dress in search of attention.
‘Damn that girl wants so much attention. It’s not funny no more. Is she working on her game to be a better basketball player? That’s the real question,’ one social media user said.
‘This girl just want more attention but don’t want to hoop lol,’ another echoed, as a third chimed in adding, ‘Tell me you want attention with out telling me.’
Reese will be back on the court next week for the inaugural season of Unrivaled, playing for Rose BC.
