Erik ten Hag could be sacked by Man Utd unless he does one thing as 'serious concern' raised by club

Erik ten Hag is walking a tightrope at Man Utd.

Erik ten Hag faces being sacked by Manchester United unless he does one thing in the coming weeks.

Man United invested heavily over the summer after enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign last season, but things still aren’t going according to plan.

Ten Hag’s side have lost two of their opening three games this term, meaning they are already six points behind rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

After squeezing past Fulham on the opening day of the season, United lost 2-1 to Brighton before suffering a 3-0 thrashing at home to arch-rivals Liverpool.

According to The Guardian, Ten Hag is at risk of being sacked if his game model does not start impressing United’s Ineos-led football department soon.

The report claims that while senior figures at Old Trafford appreciate that Ten Hag has been undermined by injuries and needs time to integrate his five summer signings, they have ‘serious concern’ regarding how he sets up the side.

The Dutchman looked certain to be dismissed after United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, but victory against Man City in the FA Cup final appeared to buy him some extra time.

Though Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe did conduct a search for a potential replacement, they opted to stick with Ten Hag.

Earlier this week United CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth publicly backed Ten Hag as the right man to lead the team this season.

Ten Hag signed a new contract in the summer, he has to begin to show his team can dominate games and opponents.

Along with Berrada and Ashworth, United brought in Jason Wilcox as technical director to monitor how the first team plays.

United have nine games in the space of six weeks following the international break. They will travel to Southampton in the league before hosting Barnsley in the Carabao Cup and then facing Crystal Palace away.

Ten Hag’s side will then return to Old Trafford to host FC Twente in the Europa League before playing Tottenham at home, Porto away, Aston Villa away, Brentford at home and Fenerbahce away.
