You can put this in the category of, you couldn’t make this up if you tried.

When Caitlin Clark went up for a layup and was fouled by Angel Reese on Sunday during a game between the Fever and Sky, the ball went flying into the stands and nearly clobbered a fan if it wasn’t for the quick reflexes of the person sitting next to them.

So who was that fan?

It was none other than Jon Ledecky, the uncle of famed American Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky and the co-owner of the Islanders.

And the person who saved the Isles’ owner from being hit by the ball was his nephew Michael, who is Katie Ledecky’s brother.

In a post shared to Michael’s Instagram story and posted on a screenshot of the play shows Michael getting his hand in front of the ball that had been headed right for his uncle’s head.

“[Angel Reese’s] Flagrant 1 on [Caitlin Clark] + saving uncle Jon’s noggin on same play,” Michael captioned the story.

Ledecky had been shooting a video of the play on the floor at the time of the flagrant foul and captured the play on camera.

Toward the end, an arm can be briefly seen coming into the shot and then the phone seems to drop down.

The Caitlin Clark phenomenon has drawn plenty of celebs to Fever games this season, and now she gave a warm welcome to an NHL owner who was presumably in Indianapolis to watch Katie Ledecky compete at the Olympic swimming trails in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Jon Ledecky has co-owned the Islanders alongside Scott Malkin since the two entered into a deal to purchase the team from the late Charles Wang in 2014.

The two took over majority ownership of the hockey team in 2016.
