Joe Alwyn has maintained absolute silence since the end of his deep relationship with Taylor Swift. He has focused on his work and lived a private life.
According to The Things, over a year after his breakup with Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn has kept a low profile. The only girl rumored to be dating Alwyn is Emma Laird – his co-star in The Brutalist. However, close sources have denied these rumors.
Alwyn’s friends, as reported by Daily Mail, describe the 33-year-old actor as gentle and calm, making him “the ideal boyfriend” for many women. However, Alwyn is said to only want to maintain friendships with the ladies around him. He is currently fully focused on his acting career.
Devoting all his time to work, TMZ reported on May 17th that Alwyn was seen chatting with a group of friends at a party at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes. The actor is in France to promote his new film, Kinds of Kindness.
Directed by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness is one of the most shocking works, receiving a four-minute standing ovation at this year’s film festival. The film’s script consists of three separate stories, exploring unusual topics such as sexual cults, cannibalistic rituals… Each actor plays multiple roles.
In the film, Alwyn portrays three roles, but only the last two have specific names, Jerry and Joseph. The three characters have contrasting personalities and circumstances, showcasing Alwyn’s versatile acting abilities, as noted by IMDb.
At the Cannes press conference, Alwyn shared his experience receiving the film: “When reading the script, I naturally found it strange, crazy, and also very special. But if you try to decipher the story too much, I think everything will get stuck in your head.”
One of the reasons Alwyn enjoys Yorgos’ films is that he experiences the work through senses to appreciate its greatness, rather than trying to analyze every confusing detail. “So, I almost completely trust the world he builds and follow any direction the director outlines. I am fortunate to be in Yorgos’ films,” he added.
Kinds of Kindness witnesses the reunion of Alwyn and Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone. Previously, they had great chemistry in the thrilling comedy film of 2018, The Favourite.
Stone praised Alwyn’s efforts on set, telling the press: “I really admire Joe. He and I had to shoot many intense scenes in this movie, and it was comfortable to be with Joe, one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met.”
According to People, alongside the film causing a stir at Cannes, the British actor will meet the audience in two upcoming projects, The Brutalist and Hamlet. Both films have finished shooting and are in post-production.
Reaction to becoming a “victim” of Taylor Swift
Joe Alwyn has appeared frequently in France after his breakup with Taylor Swift. He received praise for his stylish appearance through photos on social media.
In April, the actor became the center of attention when he was speculated to be the target of his ex in the joint album The Tortured Poets Department. Fans speculated that So Long, London, But Daddy I Love Him, I Can Do It with a Broken Heart, and Fortnight… are songs where Swift criticized her ex.
Notably, in the lyrics “My husband’s cheating. I want to kill him / I love him, but that destroys my life” from the song Fortnight, Swift is believed to be referring to Alwyn’s betrayal.
A source revealed to Page Six that Alwyn has not said anything about the breakup and fully respects Swift’s decision, even when he became a “victim” in her new album.
“Regardless of what Taylor does, he still doesn’t respond because he has removed himself from her story. Joe is happy to do so,” a close associate of the actor said.
Paparazzi from many Hollywood newspapers followed Alwyn to ask about The Tortured Poets Department, but what they received was a cold expression and the actor’s silence.
According to Evan Nierman – CEO of Red Banyan PR company, and Erik Bernstein – crisis communications expert, Alwyn’s silence is the wisest and most understandable way to handle the situation. If he speaks out, he will be attacked by the Swifties community and become easy prey for the media to exploit.
Bernstein analyzed on Fox News: “From the beginning, Joe has expressed his desire to keep his personal life as private as possible. If he suddenly starts revealing secrets or getting excited about relationships, that would be strange and cause suspicion from the public.”
