Caitlin Clark’s team-mates reveal how WNBA’s newest superstar ignores critics

Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever teammate revealed how the rookie sensation tunes out her critics.

Clark’s rookie campaign has been a massive success, as the No 1 overall pick in April’s WNBA Draft moved the needle for women’s basketball. Aside from shattering records on the court, the former Iowa star inspired a spike in viewership in attendance league-wide.

With the magnitude of her success, Clark unsurprisingly deals with a lot of critics. While speaking to the media, Fever veteran guard Erica Wheeler revealed how Clark deals with the spotlight and how they help her as teammates.

‘All we do is have fun with Caitlin Clark, we never take anything serious,’ Wheeler said. ‘I tell people all the time she’s really a kid at heart. Also, Christie [Sides] and the coaching staff, they allow us to have fun.

‘There’s moments when we need to be serious and we are serious. But majority of the time, we’re having fun. The outside world was really trying to get inside this building we just didn’t let it.’

Amid her soaring popularity, Clark has led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Despite early struggles, Clark’s scoring ability has translated well from college to the professional ranks. With a 35-point performance in a barnburner win over the Dallas Wings on September 15, Clark broke the WNBA’s rookie scoring record.

With one game remaining in the season, Clark is eighth in the league in scoring with 761 points.

Clark also broke the single-season assist record set by Alyssa Thomas last season, dishing out 329 dimes this season.

Averaging 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 1.3 steals, Clark is the frontrunning to win Rookie of the Year.
