The Travis Kelce–Taylor Swift romance seems like it’s been going on for much longer than the four or so months it has been due to how much it’s been in the news and on social media.

But, NFL on CBS analyst Tony Romo wanted to speed up their relationship a little bit when he mistakenly referred to the pop star as Travis Kelce’s wife during the Chiefs’ dramatic 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Not so fast, Romo. The couple isn’t even engaged yet, as it’s just been a few months. It is funny that Jim Nantz, who almost assuredly could not care less about the entire ordeal, quickly corrected him.

Tony Romo is no stranger to these kinds of singer-athlete relationships. Before he married his wife Candice, he was in a relationship with Jessica Simpson. And, when Simpson showed up to a big Cowoboys game in December 2007, Romo played poorly while the broadcast continually showed Simpson in the suite. It was not a good look for Romo at all, and people said he wasn’t focused enough on the game. That’s clearly nonsense, because every player’s girlfriend or wife is in the stands.

As for Kelce and Swift, it was the second consecutive loss for the team with her in the stands after a 4-0 start in games she attended. That’s not for lack of effort from Kelce, though. Coming into today, he was averaging over 100 yards a game with Swift in the stands, and half that many when she was absent. Against the Bills, he had 6 catches for 83 yards, and had the coolest touchdown of the season on a perfect lateral off a ball he caught well down the field called back due to Kadarius Toney lining up in the neutral zone.

Who knows, maybe a marriage will come at some point for the couple. But, not as soon Tony Romo would like, apparently.
