Corey Perry’s recent move sparks financial issue with Oilers organization

Corey Perry’s contract was terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks following controversy this year, and then would sign a contract with the Edmonton Oilers, but the Oilers wanted to be cautious when signing Perry and the financial aspect of his contract is very strategic.

The Edmonton Oilers are in the second round of the playoffs right now against the Vancouver Canucks, they were just hit with news that they’re going to have to pay over $275,000 to Corey Perry in bonus overages as in the contract stipulates a $50,000 bonus if Perry plays in over 50% of the games through the first two rounds of the NHL playoffs for Edmonton.

This makes the Edmonton Oilers cap bonus overage for next season 3.5 million with Perry’s overage.

11 other NHL teams are affected by this but Edmonton leads at number one with their overage bonuses.

As Cory Perry hasn’t made much of an impact in Edmonton, his impact will be felt as they start the NHL season next year $3.5 million in the hole.
