Bronny James, son of LeBron James, has faced his fair share of criticism from basketball fans. Despite their differences, people seemed to put Bronny on the same pedestal as his legendary father, and were not happy with him, especially after his poor performances with the USC Trojans.
During an interview with Sirius XM NBA, Bronny was asked what it was like to be the son of one of the greatest players of all time. He replied:
“It’s tough. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way. But, you know, I gotta deal with it. We all know what I’ve been through. I just try to make the best of my opportunities that’s been given to me. “
Bronny wrapped his participation in the 2024 NBA Draft Combine on Sunday, surprising many with his performances. Besides his three-point shooting (19-for-25) and max vertical (40.5″), the guard finished with 13 points in the final scrimmage.
The 19-year-old also impressed scouts and NBA teams with his overall demeanor and attitude towards others and the sport.
NBA Executive believes Bronny James has a shot at rotational player
The tides around Bronny James are slowly changing. From being branded a non-NBA material, the young star’s prospects have changed immensely as people can finally see him as a pro player.
Many have pointed out the stark differences in Bronny’s performance during his college career and the Combine. An anonymous executive had an answer to this.
“He was in a tough situation in college,” the executive told ESPN’s Jamal Collier. “He had the health issue, and their backcourt was already set. Isaiah Collier is a legit lottery pick, and Boogie Ellis as a senior ahead of him. So I can see where (James) needs more time, but in a few years he’s got a shot to be an NBA rotation player.”
Besides the roster issues at USC, Bronny James also suffered a health scare in July 2023. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and missed four months of practice and game time as he underwent surgery and rehabilitation. All of this affected his overall performance, but the guard seems to be back on track.
While he may not be an explosive player like his father, Bronny has a good prospect at playing the league, solely due to his basketball IQ, passing, and shooting skills.
