Robert Griffin III’s message to WNBA’s Caitlin Clark haters: ‘Stop her’ (ch)

Robert Griffin III is on the WNBA hype train and he will not stand for any Caitlin Clark hate.

The former NFL quarterback and ex-ESPN analyst took to social media to call out WNBA players who seemed to have an issue with Clark and the attention she’s been getting all season since she was taken No. 1 overall in this year’s draft.

Clark and the view other players in the WNBA have of her were back in the headlines on Sunday after Clark appeared to have a small run-in with the Storm’s Skylar Diggins-Smith.

Another Storm player, Jewell Loyd, sidestepped a question about Clark during the postgame press conference as well, only furthering the narrative.

But Griffin didn’t take too kindly to the apparent Clark disses.

“It’s VERY CLEAR WNBA players are tired of Caitlin Clark getting all the shine and being the vocal point of every discussion,” RGIII wrote on X. “It’s beyond competitiveness and physical play. They don’t even want to answer questions about her. If they don’t like it, THEN STOP HER.”

Clark has been shattering Indiana Fever and WNBA records left and right, including on Sunday against the Storm when she had nine assists to break the league record for total assists by a rookie with 225.

But the shoulder bump by Diggins-Smith and the refusal to answer a question about Clark by Loyd, reignited the ongoing debate over how Clark is viewed by her fellow players.

Sports talking heads have been weighing in on the topic for months, and the latest incident drove Shannon Sharpe to lose it.

“Y’all [are] mad because that corn fed Iowa girl [is] busting your ass. Y’all said she’s too weak. ‘She can’t do this.’ She’s leading the WNBA in assists. She’s cooking. Let her cook! Let her cook!” Sharpe screamed on his “Night Cap” Podcast.

Clark has quickly become the face of the league with fellow rookie Angel Reese, who has carved out a strong 2024 season of her own.

In a separate post on Monday night, Griffin, who was fired by ESPN on Thursday along with Sam Ponder in a reported budgetary decision, praised both rookies.

“Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese aren’t playing like rookies. They are TAKING THE WNBA BY STORM in their own way,” part of his post read. “Angel Reese is the FASTEST EVER in WNBA History to record 20 double doubles, is 3 away from setting the record for most in a season and has the most double digit rebound games with 22.

“Caitlin Clark broke a 26 year old WNBA rookie record for assists in a season, the Indiana Fever have matched their win total from last year with 12 games left in the season and she ranks 11th in PPG. The WNBA is in good hands for the foreseeable future.”

Griffin’s time with the network came to an end when it came out last Thursday that they were moving on.

He had been pulled off “Monday Night Countdown” in May so that ESPN could add recently retired player Jason Kelce to the network.

Griffin wrote on social media on Sunday that he would “answer” questions soon surrounding the firing by the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
