The hype around Caitlin Clark is truly worth it. A lot of the records in the WNBA have been left to the question — when will, not if, the Indiana Fever rookie break these seemingly unreal WNBA feats? She once again faced the Jewell Lloyd-led Seattle Storm and notched something special on her resume that no other player has ever gotten. It was all because of her insane effort on the floor along with the help of women like Aliyah Boston and Erica Wheeler.
Caitlin Clark became the fastest player in league history to record 300+ points, 100+ rebounds, and 100+ assists, per StatMamba. The Fever rookie clinched this in the middle of their clash against the Storm where she was hounded by Jewell Lloyd and Jordan Horston. Nonetheless, she was still able to put up big numbers.
Clark played 38 minutes for the Fever. In that amount of time, she was able to score 15 points while going 4-9 from the field. The rookie also sank all but one of her five free throw attempts to round out her scoring numbers. Offensively, she was dictating the pace and sets that her team would run. The floor general then ended up dropping seven assists for the night.
She might be the most lethal offensive weapon for the Fever but Clark also does a lot of all-around work. She cleaned up the boards well which got her six rebounds. Moreover, her bounce was just unreal against the Storm. At the 6:56 mark of the third quarter, Skylar Diggins thought she had an easy lane and an even easier shot from 4 feet out. Then, Clark quickly jumped up to swat her. This netted her a block in the stat sheet to round out the night.
The same problems still haunt the Fever rookie. Whenever a lot of pressure is placed on her as a ballhandler, the decisions she makes are not that optimal. In this matchup, she got the ball stolen from her quite a lot and it resulted to six turnovers.
Jewell Lloyd is making sure that her squad never loses to Clark’s. Due to this mentality, she was able to pop off for 34 points while being able to knock down 10 out of her 15 field goal attempts. Add the fact that she knocked down six out of her nine three-pointers, the Storm had an insane leader who was hunting down matchups.
Lloyd also grabbed five rebounds along with a steal and a block. Not to mention, she kept the Storm offense infectious by also dropping two assists for the night. The Storm benefitted a lot from her on-court leadership. They won this clash against the Fever with an 89-77 scoreline. This was despite them losing the rebounding battle where they only managed to get 27 while the Fever notched 44.
The way they won it? Well, they capitalized on Clark and the rest of the Fever ballhandlers’ mistakes. This is why they got 14 steals for the night. The Storm now have six wins at home while only enduring a single loss throughout this WNBA season. They did not plan for Caitlin Clark to break that record.
