The Swiss ice hockey league witnessed a terrifying incident between two former NHL stars
Tragedy was narrowly avoided in the professional Swiss ice hockey league last week. Fans have been calling for former NHL star Martin Frk to be “banned for life” after he was involved in what was a near-fatal incident during a game between Lausanne and Rapperswil-Jona.
During one point in the game, the former Detroit Red Wings star clashed with Lawrence Pilut as the two went for puck possession. As they tussled, Frk lashed out in frustration, kicking his opposition player in the face.

The sharp skate collided with Pilut’s face, cutting it deeply. Fortunately, the blade didn’t connect with any vital areas and thus any potential tragedy was avoided.
Martin Frk has since been given a one game suspension and a fine of 7,600 Swiss francs- roughly $8,700. The league’s disciplinary committee has also launched an investigation into the incident.
The player, unsurprisingly, has since been on the receiving end overwhelming criticism, with calls to ban him for life gathering plenty of momentum.
“Reckless beyond belief, fortunately this didn’t end someone’s life,” wrote one user on X in response to the incident. “Suspend him forever,” said another.
