Alex DeBrincat will gain trade protection on July 1st, 2024, as a result of signing with the Red Wings on July 9th, 2023.
His last contract with Steve Yzerman was signed following arbitration according to CapFriendly, earning DeBrincat a $7.875 Million AAV over 4 years.
As the 1st year of his contract comes to an end, his gets trade protection to kick-in as an M-NTC is attached.
Beginning in 2024-2025, DeBrincat’s M-NTC(Modified-No Trade Clause) has a list of 16 NHL teams attached to the contract.
Which means, of what we know Alex DeBrincat has no interest in playing for half of the NHL.
This raises curiosity, not only for fans as we want to know which teams he refuses to play for. I’m going to guess that one of them right away, is the Columbus Blue Jackets?
Regardless, it’s unlikely we’ll never know unless Yzerman decides to move DeBrincat but consider he is part of the future, I don’t see us figuring it out.
DeBrincat played a full 82 game season with the Red Wings, posting 67 points(27 G, 40 A) and was also reunited with former Blackhawks teammate Patrick Kane this year.
