Last year, Brittney Griner was convicted and sentenced to nine-year imprisonment. After 10 months of incarceration, she was ultimately released via a widely controversial prisoner swap.
Griner regained her freedom when the US Government agreed to send Victor Bout, known as “The Merchant of Death,” back to Russia.
Recently, an old video of the Phoenix Mercury player allegedly without a shirt spread like wildfire (via Alexander Sheppard):

The video has sparked yet another heated debate on social media about Brittney Griner’s gender.
At this point it is unclear to ascertain if it was Brittney Griner in the video. But whether it was actually her in the video or not does not prove she is a man, unlike what the post suggested.
Despite looking very much like a man, Griner is a woman. She is also a big presence in the LGBTQ community.
Here’s what she had to say in an ESPN’s 2015 Body Issue:
“When I was younger, I definitely got picked on for my size and my voice, which has always been deep. I never wanted to speak up in class. I didn’t want to hear myself; I hated the way I sounded. I couldn’t listen. They teased me about everything, my different voice, my stature, my chest.
“I’ve always been flat-chested. I remember around sixth or seventh grade the ‘cool girls’ would reach out and touch my chest: ‘Yep, nothing.’ I felt like less than a person. It was crazy. I felt frozen. That was one of the worst things they could do.”
That, however, hasn’t stopped some fans from accusing Griner of being a male disguised as a woman. They’ve taken her body shape and voice as conclusive ‘evidence’ that she’s a man.
The eight-time WNBA All-Star, who is married to Cherelle Griner, opened up about her sexuality about a decade ago. The Mercury star was also formerly married to Glory Johnson, another pro basketball player.
Alexander Sheppard and many others, however, are convinced that there is room for doubt about Griner’s gender.
“After hearing Brittney Griner speak, there is no doubt in my mind that he is a MAN who joined the WNBA because it is easier, much like Lia Thomas did with swimming.
“We should have known because he’s the only WNBA player who can dunk a basketball. LISTEN and tell me I’m wrong.”
During this year’s WNBA All-Star game, Griner dunked twice in her emotional return to the league after her imprisonment in Russia. Although she was greeted with loud applause, there are fans who think dunking should be easy as she’s supposedly a man.
Basketball fans in the Las Vegas WNBA All-Star Game supported Brittney Griner
Around two weeks ago, Brittney Griner was the toast of the WNBA All-Star game in Las Vegas. She was applauded by fans even during the warmups.
The Phoenix Mercury center was an honorary starter last year and was thrilled to be present this time.
Fans have come to expect her dunks as part of the All-Star game. She didn’t disappoint them by slamming the ball twice in the game. Griner now has 26 total dunks, a record in the WNBA.
After the game, she thanked the fans who showed their support, especially during her time in Russia.
