Mercedes Mone made her AEW debut in March 2024 and is looking forward to winning her first title in the company next weekend. Wrestling legend Konnan recently explained why Mone is getting booed by the live crowds despite being a babyface in promotion.

The CEO is feuding with Willow Nightingale in All Elite Wrestling and is set to challenge for her TBS Title at Double or Nothing 2024 on May 26, 2024. Though Mone was introduced as a babyface upon her debut, she has been getting booed by the fans. Even on this week’s AEW Dynamite, Nightingale putting Mercedes Mone through the table generated cheers from the crowd.

This can be attributed to just how beloved Willow Nightingale was by the fans and the fact that Mone was cutting heel promos in recent weeks. Konnan echoed similar sentiments on the latest episode of his Keepin’ It 100 podcast.

The WCW veteran explained that though the fans were cheering the former Sasha Banks despite her acting like a heel initially, they were very much on Nightingale’s side now.

“For years we’ve been saying that she cuts heel promos as a babyface, even when she was in WWE, then she came here [AEW] and then check it out. Her first weekend that she came in, she got a thunderous, obviously she was in Boston, but she got a thunderous ovation, CEO chants, like huge babyface thing. Her promo was very heelish and we brought it up. Second week, she got a huge ovation, her promo was heelish, we brought it up. Third week her promo was heelish, we brought it up. Fourth week, the fans figured out and turned on her,” Konnan said. [From 36:37 to 37:09]

Bully Ray thinks Mercedes Mone is already a heel in AEW
Recently on the Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray mentioned that even though it hasn’t been made explicit Mercedes Mone was already a heel.

The WWE legend stated that Mone’s actions, body language, and promos were that of a heel and that’s it only a matter of before she legitimately turns to the dark side.

“Everything about Mercedes [Mone] as I’ve been saying for a while now reeks, drips of heel. HEEL all caps underscore however you want to do it, put a big circle around it. Mercedes Mone is a heel.”
Considering Mercedes Mone will wrestle her first match in AEW at Double or Nothing 2024, fans expect her to dethrone Willow Nightingale for the TBS Title.
