While the WNBA has understandably focused a lot of its attention to No. 1 Draft pick Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in 2024 preseason, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese took a moment to remind everyone on social media that the rookie class goes deeper than Clark.
“So happy for all the rooks!!!!”, Angel Reese posted during Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson‘s WNBA debuts with the Los Angeles Sparks. Her fellow newcomers are bringing a new era to WNBA and the former LSU star is loving it.
WNBA rookies start strong in preseason
The preseason matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Dallas Wings witnessed a packed arena as Caitlin Clark made her highly anticipated WNBA debut. Mirroring her standout performances at the University of Iowa, Clark dazzled on the court, tallying 21 points alongside three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, despite the Fever facing a defeat.
On the same night, Reese almost put up a double-double herself, while showing flashes of chemistry with the Sky’s other first round pick, Kamilla Cardoso. Embarrassingly, the WNBA encountered a streaming issue forcing fans to watch her pro debut on grainy social media live streams.
Meanwhile, Brink stepped into the WNBA with aplomb, wasting no time in leaving her mark. As the second overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Brink swiftly notched her first professional point during the Los Angeles Sparks’ first preseason clash against the Seattle Storm.
Adding to the rookie excitement, former Tennessee women’s basketball star Rickea Jackson, another top pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft, made her mark in a Los Angeles Sparks uniform on Saturday evening. While it may have been just preseason action, Jackson showcased her skills with a sharp debut performance.
With all the stellar debuts of high draft selections, Reese reminded WNBA fans that there is plenty of new talent to be excited about beyond Clark.
