The architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty is stepping down.

Warriors president of basketball operations and general manager Bob Myers is leaving the team, he told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“It’s just time,” Myers said, according to Wojnarowski.

Myers helped lead the Warriors to four NBA titles and twice won the NBA’s Executive of the Year award.

Originally a sports agent, Myers was hired as an assistant GM in 2011 and was quickly promoted to general manager in 2012.

Myers’ contract was going to expire in June and he declined a new offer to remain with the team that would have made him one of the NBA’s top-paid executives, Wojnarowski reported.

The Athletic reported in January that if Myers did, in fact, leave the Warriors, the Knicks, Suns and Wizards could be among the landing spots for the highly sought-after executive.

But Myers, who’s set to speak at a news conference at 4 p.m. ET, also told Wojnarowski that he’s unsure of his future plans.

Marc Stein reported on May 20 that if Myers left the Warriors, he would likely take a break and spend more time with his family before going to a new destination.

One of Myers’ key moves was replacing head coach Mark Jackson with Steve Kerr, who helmed the Warriors’ 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 championship teams.

Overall under Myers’ leadership, Golden State made the playoffs nine times and claimed six Western Conference titles.

This season, Golden State reached the postseason but fell to the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals.

Along with helping ink Stephen Curry to two contracts, Myers drafted Draymond Green and signed Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant, key pieces during Golden State’s title runs.

Curry previously told NBC Sports Bay Area that Myers’ words held a lot of weight with him.

“The fact that I can have a difficult conversation with him I can pick up the phone and let him know how I’m feeling,” Curry said. “He’ll give it to me straight around where we are as a team or where I am individually.”

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a potential successor to Myers, though it’s possible the Warriors look outside the organization for replacements, the Mercury News reported.

Wojnarowski reported that Joe Lacob’s son, Kirk, could figure in as a more prominent figure in the team’s front office.
