According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bills plan on releasing Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White. The team plans to designate him as a cut after June 1st, clearing them a whopping $10.2 million in cap space.
White was just one of several notable Bills players to get cut in cap-saving moves today. The team also released star safety Jordan Poyer, mainstay center Mitch Morse, offensive weapons Deonte Harty and Nyheim Hines as well as cornerback Siran Neal.
With the Bills up against the cap, GM Brandon Beane had to make some difficult decisions ahead of free agency. That included releasing two of the franchise’s cornerstone players in Poyer and White, who have been instrumental in the club’s emergence as an AFC heavyweight.
That said, there promises to be a considerable market for White ahead of free agency. For his career, the 2017 first-round pick has 18 interceptions, 68 pass defenses and five forced fumbles.
