Kirk Cousins has undergone another surgery following his season-ending Achilles operation.

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback closed his 2023 NFL campaign prematurely, going out in Week 8 after tearing said tendon in a win over the Green Bay Packers. He has since gone under the knife but, in a bid to be in the best shape as he can ahead of contract negotiations, he’s gone through another procedure.

Cousins, who will be a free agent in March, flew to Antigua and Barbuda on January 6 for stem cell treatment on his hamstring, with KARE11 reporting as much.

The QB will be 36 by the time the 2024 NFL season rolls around and is keen on landing a new contract, so an Achilles injury could not have come at a worse time. It appears he’s leaving no stone unturned in a bid to be as healthy as possible when contract talks begin.

“[My contract] is expiring in March, I don’t know what’s coming, but I know my Achilles needs to be as healthy and strong as possible, as soon as possible,” he told Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Services (ABS).

“I’m here in Antigua as a way to not necessarily speed up the healing process but just make sure when I do come back that my Achilles is as strong as it can possibly be and that I have a lot more football, American football left in me.”

Cousins opted to have his surgery in the Caribbean as the Federal Drug Association has restricted various stem cell treatments in the United States, including the procedure he undertook.
