Cap casualties are a thing that all fans and franchises hate, but tough decisions have to be made.

The Los Angeles Chargers needed to get under the salary cap by Wednesday afternoon and this has put several players on the chopping block. The first domino to fall was the team announcing that they were releasing star wide receiver Mike Williams.

The move saves the Chargers $20 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap, and they are now cap-compliant ahead of the new league year.

Williams has struggled to stay on the field, as a torn ACL limited him to just three appearances in 2023. He seemed to be on the verge of a breakout season, recording 249 receiving yards before he went down.

Williams will now be a free agent. He spent seven seasons with the team as he racked up 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 receiving touchdowns.

For the first time in his NFL career, the 29-year-old will look for a new home.
