The New York Jets are reportedly said to release one of their starting receivers.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team will move on from veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah.

“Jets expected to release tight end C.J. Uzomah, per sources,” Fowler reported on Tuesday morning. “Move will save $5-plus million on the cap.”

The 31-year-old played 12 games in 2023 as he missed the last five weeks of the season with an MCL injury. He didn’t play all that much when he was healthy either as he got at least 50 percent of offensive snaps just once last season. He only registered eight receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown.

He caught 21 passes for 232 yards and two scores in 15 outings during his first campaign with the team.

The TE has one year remaining on the three-year deal he signed with the Jets back in 2022.

Uzomah was a fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015. He spent his first seven years in Cincy, with his best season coming when they reached the Super Bowl in 2021. That term, he recorded 49 catches for 493 yards and five TDs. He caught 15 passes for 146 yards and a score in four playoff games thereafter.

The Jets are expected to move on with Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert at TE next season.
