Clark declared for the WNBA Draft earlier this week and is playing in her final home game for the Hawkeyes.

She needed 18 points to pass Maravich’s remarkable total of 3,667 in his three seasons at Louisiana State.

Clark broke the record late in the first half, hitting the crucial points from the free-throw line to give her team a 48-39 lead.

The Buckeyes arrived in Iowa on a 15-straight winning streak.

Clark showed little emotion after breaking the record, instead getting straight back into a defensive position with the Hawkeyes cheered on by a raucous home crowd.

No. 6 ranked Iowa went in at the half leading 48-39.

“Congrats to Caitlin Clark on setting the NCAA scoring record what a legend!” wrote one fan on X, where many were in awe of the achievement.

“Best college player ever. No contest,” said another.

“Draft her into the NBA asap, she’s that good!” claimed a third.

“Historic achievement,” concluded a fourth.

Clark is the reigning AP Player of the Year and has been credited with a surge in interest in women’s basketball.

The 22-year-old has gone early with her declaration for April’s WNBA Draft, announcing the news before March Madness.

“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa, “Clark wrote in a statement on X earlier this week.

“I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft.

“It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa – my teammates, who made the last four years the best.

“Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without my family and friends who have been by my side through it all. Because of all of you, my dreams came true.”
