Connor McCaffery summed up his reaction to girlfriend Caitlin Clark’s Associated Press Rookie of the Year honor in just a single word.
“Duh,” the newly appointed Butler assistant coach posted Sunday in a celebratory Instagram Story in response to the news.
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick by Indiana in the 2024 WNBA Draft, was unanimously named the league’s top rookie, joining teammate Aliyah Boston as the only members of the Fever to receive the prestigious nod, according to the release.

In addition to the Rookie of the Year honor, Clark was named to the All-WNBA First Team and the All-Rookie Team.
A standout at Iowa, Clark’s dominance at the collegiate level transitioned to the pros, where she averaged 19.2 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists this season.

It’s been an exciting week for both Clark and McCaffery, whose assistant coaching role on Butler’s men’s basketball team was announced this week.

McCaffery, an Iowa hoops alum and the son of Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery, previously served as the basketball development coordinator for the Pacers.
“Following a high-level playing career, Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA,” Butler coach Thad Matta said in a statement Monday. “Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. He obviously comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited for the impact he is going to have on our program both quickly and in the long run.”
Clark, who revealed her relationship with McCaffery last summer, congratulated him in a sweet social media tribute.
“Yayy!! So happy for you,” she wrote Monday.
The couple marked one year of dating in April.
