Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark marked another milestone in her WNBA career after being named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week. This was after the rookie sensation led Indiana to a 4-0 record over the past week behind averages of 24.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while also knocking down 4.3 triples per contest.

There is little doubt that Clark deserves this accolade after a truly impressive showing over the past four games. At the same time, however, it wasn’t just Caitlin who led Indiana’s recent surge.

Clark’s backcourt partner, Kelsey Mitchell, has also been on quite a tear of late. Over the team’s 4-0 stretch, Mitchell has produced averages of 27.8 points (including a 36-point explosion on September 1 against the Dallas Wings), 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Mitchell, a two-time All-Star, has also connected on 3.8 deep balls per contest.

Given her recent hot streak, there are more than a few Fever fans out there who are questioning Clark’s Player of the Week win over Mitchell. Indiana’s announcement on X, formerly Twitter, has, unsurprisingly, gone viral (318,000 views in four hours as of writing), and there are a lot of supporters who have admitted that they were actually rooting for Mitchell over Caitlin.

“I love Caitlin Clark, but… Kelsey Mitchell was the player of the week hands down,” read a comment.

“How about Kelsie Mitchell,” asked a fan.

“I was pulling for Kelsey on this one. She deserves to get an award for how well she has played,” confessed a Fever supporter.

“Caitlin is my favorite player by a mile. I was pulling for Kelsey to get this one this week,” commented another.

“Tough cause kelsey def deserved it too,” a reaction read.

Whatever the case might be, there’s no changing the fact that Caitlin Clark is the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the period of August 26 to September 1.

Mitchell may have deserved it, too, but don’t expect the Fever veteran to make a big fuss out of this, especially since it’s her own teammate who won the title anyway.
