How Edmonton Oilers beat the Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers opened the scoring eight minutes into the first period when Leon Draisaitl set up Dylan Holloway.

However, the Canucks quickly responded less than two minutes later. Elias Pettersson found Nils Hoglander, who buried his first goal of the playoffs past Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner.

Edmonton thought they had taken the lead with one second remaining in the first period following a point shot from Evan Bouchard. But the goal was disallowed due to incidental contact between Connor McDavid and Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs.

The Edmonton Oilers regained the lead seven minutes into the second period when McDavid found Zach Hyman in the slot, whose shot deflected and bounced over Silovs into the net. McDavid collected another assist later in the period, setting up Bouchard for his fifth goal of the postseason, giving Edmonton a 3-1 lead.

Edmonton extended their lead to 4-1 just 3:25 into the third period, with McDavid recording his third assist of the game on a backhand pass to a charging Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

The Edmonton Oilers sealed victory with seven minutes remaining in the third when Evander Kane unleashed a wicked wrist shot for his fourth goal of the playoffs off a faceoff win.
