The Diontae Johnson trade rumors appeared to have real smoke behind it because the Steelers are indeed shipping him out.

In a post on the social media platform X, it was reported on Tuesday that Johnson is headed to the Carolina Panthers. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that cornerback Donte Jackson and a pick swap are coming to Pittsburgh.

Carolina will send Jackson and a sixth-round pick for Johnson and a seventh.

Johnson is set to enter the final year of his contract and will make $15.83 million this season. Last year, he recorded 51 catches for 717 yards and five touchdowns but has yet to surpass the 1,000-yard mark since signing his second deal.

Jackson, the former 2nd round pick in 2018, logged 76 career starts with the Panthers, tallying 303 tackles, 46 passes defended, 15 tackles for loss, 14 interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

This past season, the 28-year-old registered 59 tackles and five passes defended.
