Chelsea agree deal to sell forgotten player who played just 28 minutes for the club as fans ask 'how is this allowed?'

The deal has left fans demanding answers.

Chelsea have agreed to sell a player just one season after bringing him to the club, and Premier League are not happy.

The Blues have been busy in the summer 2024/25 transfer window bringing players like Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the club.

New manager Enzo Maresca has been ruthlessly outspoken since joining the club, criticising the squad size and confirming that several players will not be included in games and should look for a move elsewhere.

And now, it appears one of those players has agreed a deal away from Chelsea, but fans are not happy as the details of the deal have been revealed.

According to a report from L’Equipe, the London club have agreed to sell Deivid Washington to Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg, in a deal that will break the French side’s transfer record.

Chelsea will receive €21million for the sale, 12 months after paying Brazilian club Santos €16m to bring the young forward to the club on a seven-year contract with the option of a further year.

However, as Strasbourg are co-owned by BlueCo, who also own Chelsea, fans are not happy with the deal.

Reacting to the news on X, one fan wrote: “They bought him for €16m in 23/24, played him 25 minutes across 3 separate games, flipped him for €21m a year later, which means that for the period of the 24/25 season they registered a profit of €13m on him. Hello?”

Another added: “When are regulators going to police these financial shenanigans properly? Too scared to take on the biggest clubs but happy to sanction smaller clubs.”

While one simply stated: “If Chelsea get away with all this then the games gone.”

And another joked: “This has to be looked at surely. There’s going to be some Gus Fring figure lurking in a a lab in New Mexico rubbing his hands together.”

Washington spent most of the 2023-2024 season playing for Chelsea’s U21 squad, where he scored six goals in 11 games.

Another player that is looking for a move after seemingly becoming out of favour with Maresca, is Raheem Sterling who could be set to join Arsenal on deadline day.
