Chelsea looking to complete ANOTHER shock signing before deadline day as 'contact made' for £85m defender

Chelsea have had a busy summer transfer window.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in making another signing ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline day.

Todd Boehly has been a busy man again this summer as Chelsea have so far brought in the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Mike Penders, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo.

In terms of outgoings, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Diego Moreira, Tino Anjorin and Kepa Arrizabalaga have all departed Stamford Bridge.

With just a couple of days left of the transfer window, it has been claimed that Chelsea are looking to sign another new player.

As reported by The Mirror, the Blues have enquired about Benfica centre-back Tomas Araujo.

It is believed that the 22-year-old is currently not for sale but has an £85 million release clause in his Benfica contract.

The report stated that fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace had a bid of around £25 million for Araujo rejected by the Portuguese club earlier in the month.

In addition, French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain are also said to be interested in the young defender.

Chelsea recorded a huge 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, speaking after the match, manager Enzo Maresca said: “In some moments we started to see our team.

“There are many things the players are still learning. Sometimes we can play quicker, sometimes slower. It’s with time we are going to improve.”

The Italian added: “We started one-and-a-half months ago. When there is space in behind, we need to attack in behind. When teams sit back, there is no space in behind and it’s difficult. We need more passes, more process.

“I want to see my team play the way we want to play, and compete every game. This is the most important thing. I want to see on the ball a clear idea of what they want; and off the ball, a very aggressive team.”

Chelsea are back in action on Thursday night when they take on Swiss side Servette in the UEFA Conference League.
