Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has offered his first comments on the arrest of star wide receiver Rashee Rice, who turned himself in over the weekend after an arrest warrant was issued against him.

On Mar. 30, Rashee Rice was involved in a six-car accident in Dallas that caused injuries to four people. The crash sent two people to the hospital, but they avoided serious injuries and were released soon after.

An arrest warrant was issued against Rice last week, and he turned himself in to Glenn Heights Police. Rice faces eight charges, including for aggravated assault. The affidavit states that he was driving 119 MPH in his Lamborghini before the accident occurred.

Speaking to reporters at the Chiefs’ offseason program on Monday, coach Reid offered a short statement on the Rice situation, via ESPN’s Adam Teicher:

“I want to keep gathering the information from the law enforcement people. We’ll just see where everything goes from there [and] let the process take place…As long as he’s learned from it, that’s the important part of it.”

Rashee Rice and his friend, SMU cornerback Teddy Knox, are also facing a $1 million lawsuit from two of the people who were injured in the crash. Knox was driving a Corvette leased by Rice that was involved in the accident.

We’ll continue to provide more information on Rice and the legal matters when they become available.

Rashee Rice’s Promising NFL Career Is Suddenly In Jeopardy

Just two months ago, Rashee Rice was on top of the sporting world.

Rice had a phenomenal rookie season and looked like a budding star, with 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. He helped the Chiefs repeat as Super Bowl champions, making Kansas City the first team to accomplish that feat since the 2003 and ’04 New England Patriots.

But Rice’s involvement in the car accident has suddenly put his NFL future in jeopardy. Though it’s too early to know how the legal process might play out, a conviction would likely end his tenure with the Chiefs.
