Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky have continued their rivalry in the WNBA. The young basketball sensations were selected first and seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, respectively, and are leading contenders for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. NBA analyst Chris Broussard has recently picked his favorite among the two rookies.
The No.1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft helped the Indiana Fever qualify for the Playoffs for the first time since the 2016 regular season. While Caitlin Clark leads the league in assists per game, Sky forward Angel Reese is the WNBA leader in rebounds with an average of 13.2.
Besides her season-leading assists, Clark is ranked ninth in the scoring-leaders list with 18.9 points per game. In his recent appearance on First Thing First, Chris Broussard named the former IOWA Hawkeyes star a clear winner for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. He said, “In many years (Angel Reese) would be ROTY. But this clearly should be Caitlin Clark… Leads the league in assists…”
Besides her playmaking, Clark also registered 42.3% shooting from the field and 34.3% three-point FG. Broussard added, “Her shooting percentage is sky-high for the WNBA… If she’s not, it’s a travesty and a bad look for the WNBA.”
Caitlin Clark Talks About Angel Reese And ROTY Award
Caitlin Clark’s Fever are on a five-game winning streak, including a 100-81 win against the Sky on Friday. Before the game between Fever and Sky, Clark was asked about her name being mentioned alongside Angel Reese in the ROTY race. The Fever guard said, “I think me and Angel would both give you the same answer. We don’t wake up and think about individual awards.”

She added, “I know that’s what all of you think we do. I know we don’t. That’s what everybody wants to make this about. Both of our teams are competing for playoff spots. That is our main focus.”
Clark recorded the most assists in a game in WNBA history, with 19 against the Dallas Wings on July 17. The Fever have qualified for the playoffs, placing sixth in the WNBA standings. On the other hand, the Sky are placed eighth, facing neck-and-neck competition from the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics.
