David De Gea’s latest training footage has sent Manchester United fans into meltdown.

The Spaniard departed United last summer following a 12-year spell at the club, winning the Premier League Golden Glove in his final campaign.

United famously released De Gea on his wedding day last June, replacing him with Andre Onana.

Despite speculation he could sign for Newcastle, Real Betis or a club in the Saudi Pro League, the 33-year-old has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford.

Almost a year since his United departure, De Gea has shared a video on his Instagram of himself training in the Manchester club’s current first-team training attire. You can watch the video below.

Amid the clip circulating on social media, fans on X were quick to talk up the Spaniard’s qualities compared to current No.1 Onana.

One person said: “This guy is a better keeper than Onana and nothing will ever make me think otherwise!!

“Reflexes and saves he tops him. Errors yes both of them have that but just like every other keeper including almighty Neuer does.

“You all said Onana is better at ball playing yes no doubt. He still wastes bàlls and kickouts for fun during games we all see that. This business was just a downgrade.”

Another wrote: “Proper goalkeeper. Not the s**** we’ve got between the sticks now. Can’t pass or stop a simple shot, ridiculous.”

A third added: “Honestly just bring him home. Absolutely ridiculous we are persevering with a massively inferior goalkeeping in the physical art of….goalkeeping.

“Onana is better at crosses and feet but in every other metric he’s lesser than De Gea.”

De Gea has stayed in Manchester throughout his unemployment and has even been spotted watching United’s women in action this term.

Another ex-United keeper, Edwin van der Sar recently offered De Gea his support, noting that he had been in a similar scenario in 2001 after leaving Juventus. The Dutchman ultimately joined Fulham before signing for United, where he went on to win the Champions League.

Replying to another training clip posted by De Gea, Van der Sar wrote: “David, keep the faith and believe as I had something similar in 2001 and look what that brought me in the end!”
