One Detroit Lions lineman has something to say
Referee Brad Allen declared Dan Skipper the eligible receiver on the Detroit Lions’ disputed 2-point conversion in last week’s loss to Dallas.
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell made it emphatically clear he was moving on from the defeat but one player is not ready to let it go yet.
Dan Skipper didn’t have much to say after the loss in Dallas but now he is now speaking out some four days later.
Skipper has chosen his words carefully in an effort to not get fined, but he makes it clear that he remains baffled at the officiating decisions that led to him being incorrectly identified as an eligible receiver on the ill-fated 2-point play in Dallas.
“So personnel, you signal in,” Skipper told reporters on Wednesday.. “I wasn’t like this (as he wipes his numbers). I was not doing that — I was doing this (holding one arm up and another by his stomach, with two fingers out), signaling 12 jumbo. Everyone who’s played at this level, I’m sure all you guys know that you signal in personnel.”
“But when you walk up you say, ‘Sir, I am reporting as eligible.’” Skipper told reporters.
Skipper is a backup offensive lineman who gets most of his playing time as an extra tackle in jumbo formations.
“I still don’t have a lot of positive thoughts,” said the Detroit Lions offensive lineman who is at the center of the officiating gaffe in Dallas. “I really don’t have a lot of positive words. I appreciate the shot across the bow (from the league).”
The Detroit Lions fell to 11-5 with Saturday’s loss and likely cemented their spot as the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs. The Detroit Lions need a lot of help in the final week of the regular season to earn the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs.
Detroit, which has clinched the NFC North, will wrap up its regular season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
