Diana Taurasi and Caitlin Clark are two of the biggest names in WNBA history. One is a rookie. The other is the league’s all-time leading scorer. That’s pretty crazy.

Despite their differences, and all of the (manufactured) beef between them, they are cordial.

There was a lot of chatter about Taurasi and Clark prior to the season. The 21-year WNBA veteran made a comment about the greatest scorer in college basketball history’s transition to the professional level that quickly spiraled into something much bigger than it needed to be. Her warning toward the incoming rookie class was blunt, but it was also completely valid.

However, Taurasi made things worse by insulting a new generation of fans while trying to settle her beef with Clark.

To further the narrative, the three-time champion went out of her way to bully Nika Mühl during the preseason. She later baptized another rookie into the league with an ice cold stare.

It is not a secret that vets have a chip on their shoulder toward first-year players in every sport. That has been particularly true in the WNBA this year! The veterans are feisty.

All of this goes to say that Sunday’s game between the Fever and Mercury was highly anticipated. It was the first-ever matchup between ‘The Rook’ and ‘The GOAT’ because they supposedly have major beef.

Well, they don’t.

Taurasi and Brittney Griner shared a kind moment of mutual respect with Clark before the game.

Cameras later caught an on-court exchange during the second quarter. Whatever Taurasi said had Clark in stitches.

There is no bad blood.

 

Caitlin Clark recently said that she has not received any in-game advice from veterans during the early portion of her career.

If there was anyone who was least likely to step up in that regard, it was probably Diana Taurasi. She’s usually pretty dry and sometimes a bit cold. Not on Sunday! She was all smiles.
