While the forthcoming Diddy documentary is currently in the news, it looks like yet another problematic music great is about to in the spotlight soon: Chris Brown.

In a new trailer released on Monday, Investigation Discovery (ID) is gearing up to peel back the layers of the layers of Brown’s complicated musical history that’s been mired by controversy—namely his numerous assault charges over the years—n an upcoming documentary. Titled “Chris Brown: A History of Violence,” the film is set to include “expert and cultural commentary layered throughout” and provide “thoughtful reflections into each survivor’s experience and the psychological destruction in the aftermath of their abuse.” It will also include commentary from an all-new, unidentified new accuser who will detail her struggles with Brown.

The film will also serve as the jump-off point for ID’s “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign that they’re rolling out for a third year in partnership with the No More Foundation, a global initiative comprised of the largest coalition of nonprofits, corporations and more that are dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence. Following the documentary’s showing, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin will lead a panel discussion with “experts and advocates on intimate partner violence.”

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Brown has been named in a variety of lawsuits for his abusive behavior in the years seemingly since his notorious assault against Rihanna back in 2009. While most people have viewed that altercation as a one-off, the truth is that Brown has made headlines for accusations of everything from assault, to sexual assault, drugging, rape and more.

And while a handful of these cases are still playing out in court and Brown is legally innocent until proven guilty—you can’t help but be a little bothered at the pattern of the types of lawsuits his name always seems to be associated with. Yet and still, as the documentary will also explore, those allegations aren’t enough to deter his fans and diehard supporters from showing up for him.

But in this day and age where serial abusers are starting to see their day in court (looking at you Diddy and Russell Simmons), it looks like Brown just might be following in their footsteps. Here’s hoping this new documentary sheds light on the things it should and spawns necessary conversations about abuse and how to get help.
