Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark had a memorable evening at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday, sharing moments with American Olympic icons Gabby Thomas and Simone Biles after her record-setting performance.

The team’s social media showcased clips of Caitlin Clark and her Fever teammates celebrating with Thomas and Biles in the locker room following their victory over the No. 2-ranked Connecticut Sun, 84-80.

Thomas and Biles witnessed Caitlin Clark set a new WNBA rookie record for 3-pointers, surpassing Rhyne Howard’s previous mark of 85 from the 2022 season. Clark now holds the record with 88 3-pointers this season.

Clark now holds the WNBA rookie record for both 3-pointers made and assists. She recently broke a 26-year-old WNBA record held by Ticha Penicheiro, who had 224 assists in 30 games with the Sacramento Monarchs in 1998.

With nine games left in the season, the Fever are building momentum and, according to Tankathon, have the easiest remaining schedule in the league.

They are currently in seventh place with a 15-16 record, just one game behind the sixth-seeded Phoenix Mercury at 16-15 and 3.5 games ahead of Angel Reese’s 11-19 Chicago Sky, whom they will face next.

What Caitlin Clark said about her Olympic snub

Regarding her Olympic omission, Caitlin Clark said the snub didn’t get her down and she saw it as motivation instead.

“I wouldn’t say I’m bummed,” Clark said (per IndyStar). “It gives you something to work for, I’m sure, and something to dream of, and in four years you can be there. Four years comes fast. That’s your time in college, and I feel like I was just a freshman in college.”
“It shows you that you’ve got to start working now if you want that to be your dream in four years. That’s it for me – work hard and hopefully you can be there.”

Clark is currently averaging 18.0 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Since the Olympic break, she has been averaging 22.6 points, 7.8 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game during a stretch in which the Fever went 4-1.

When Team USA’s roster was announced on June 11, Caitlin Clark was only 13 games into her WNBA career. At that point, she was averaging 16.3 points per game with a shooting percentage of 37.3%, including 33.0% from three-point range. She also recorded 6.0 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 5.4 turnovers per game.

Although Clark has yet to compete in the Olympics, there is speculation about her joining Team USA for the 2028 Games.
