Since being swept in the OHL Finals just under a week ago, Oshawa Generals forward Dylan Roobroeck has signed his ELC with the New York Rangers.

Dylan Roobroeck heard his name called in the 6th round in the 2023 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers. What began as more of a “flyer” pick — as Roobroeck was an overager in the draft — has become a high value pick for the Rangers.

Just coming off being swept by the London Knights in the OHL Finals, signing his first pro contract will soften the blow for forward Dylan Roobroeck. He saw a lot of top matchups in this series, and became a top contributor with 26 points in 21 playoff games for the Generals.

Roobroeck still has one eligible season left in the OHL, but New York has decided to jump the gun early and get him into their organization right now. It is assumed that he will report to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

The 6-foot-7 forward may remind a lot of Rangers fans of one of their current players — Matt Rempe.

It has taken Roobroeck some time to learn how to use his body physically, but his physical dominance was evident in the postseason. As he continues to climb the ranks in professional hockey, his physical size and strength will give him an edge.

Away from that, Roobroeck is an excellent playmaker and he possesses high-end vision. Differentiating him from Matt Rempe, Dylan Roobroeck focuses on the offensive side of his game a lot more than his physical side.

Roobroeck’s speed and skating ability was a concern when he entered junior hockey, but after three seasons in the OHL he has become an average skater — which is all you can ask for from a 6-foot-7 forward.

At the AHL level, Roobroeck should translate seamlessly — especially if he starts in the bottom-six. There will be some more adapting for his pace of the game, but his playmaking vision, smarts, and physical strength should be projectable assets at the next level.
