According to various reports, Elon Musk is now working on the blueprints for a brand new private airport. The specific date and location of the airport have yet to be determined, but sources have verified that it would be located in Austin.

In addition to serving Musk’s businesses, several of which have a local presence, including SpaceX, Texas, and The Boring Company, in particular, the possible new airstrip might accommodate personal jet travel for himself and his colleagues. Several thousand acres in East Texas are owned by Musk and his businesses, primarily in the Colorado River region.

Giga Texas, located in southeast Travis County, is the crucial plot of property for Musk. Tesla established its headquarters at the 2,500-acre location in December.

Tesla and the Boring Company are both moving their headquarters to the Austin area in December 2020 and this spring witnessed the region’s greatest ever investment in venture capital. The Austin Executive Airport, a restricted airstrip that acts as a general aviation substitute for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, is three miles from the location on Impact Way where it is located.

A company linked to Boring’s senior executives acquired 73 acres of land in Bastrop, Texas, in the fall of 2014. A permit to construct an 80,000-square-foot warehousing and production facility was requested by business officials in February and was approved by the Bastrop County Officials Court on March 1. Uncertainty surrounds the site’s plans, however, job advertising suggested that “Prufrock” tunneling technology development may take place there.

Musk’s proposed private airport is expected to take up an unknown amount of area. The 6,025-foot runway and more than 130,000 square feet of community hangar space at Austin Executive Airport serve as a comparison for size.

Musk currently uses a 2015 Gulfstream G650 to go to Austin, however, he has ordered a brand-new, top-of-the-line private aircraft, which is scheduled to be delivered in early 2023. As Tesla has been accelerating production on its Model Y at Giga Texas, Elon Musk has found it essential to make frequent trips to Central Texas this year.

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is just five miles away from the Gigafactory, which was opened by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The federal EPA and FAA must both approve the construction of a new airport before it may be used. Local laws could also be relevant. Given Musk’s continuing spat with President Joe Biden, the road to completion may be difficult.
