ESPN anchor puts Jason Whitlock to shame after he tries to backtrack on Angel Reese

Angel Reese produced a career-high performance for the Chicago Sky against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, exposing a bold take from Jason Whitlock in the process.

ESPN anchor Stan Verrett blasted his former colleague Jason Whitlock after the outspoken broadcaster’s hot take on WNBA Star Angel Reese was exposed. Blaze Media personality Whitlock dubbed the Chicago Sky rookie the “arguably the most overrated athlete in all of sports”, only for the LSU alum to rack up a career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in an 88-87 victory over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday.

Whitlock had no choice but to hold his hands up and admit his claim was wide of the mark when followers pointed out his misguided verdict. “She’s unskilled,” he posted on X. “But she also has a higher basketball IQ than I gave her credit for.

“She knows how to play. She’s a terrific competitor. Her game is to establish post position and she works hard to get it. That type of effort will make her highly effective.”

However, SportsCenter host Verrett was not one to his former colleague off the hook. The pair have a long-running beef, with Verrett often calling Whitlock’s comments out on social media, and he did so again in the wake of Whitlock’s whiff on Reese.

“In other words, ‘I never really saw her play before I decided to attack her needlessly, because I knew it would play well with the anti-Black audience I’m desperately seeking to retain some relevance after my many firings,’” Verrett wrote. “Fixed that for you.”

Verrett went on to add that his bad blood with Whitlock dates back to 2007 when the pair appeared on a radio show to discuss radio personality Don Imus making a racially insensitive remark about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

“Verrett said on X: “I have to give y’all the history about Whitlock. In 2007, I was on a point/counterpoint radio show about Don Imus calling the Rutgers women ‘nappy-headed hoes’. I wondered who they could possibly find to defend Imus. They found Whitlock. It’s been on ever since.”

Reese’s dominant performance against the Fever continued her recent strong form, three days after she totaled 16 points and 18 rebounds in an 83-72 victory over the Dallas Wings. The 22-year-old was the No. 7 overall pick after starring at LSU, where she won the 2023 NCAA tournament and was a two-time First-team All-American.
