Europa League draw recap: Man Utd face Jose Mourinho reunion, Tottenham given tricky fixture list

Man Utd, Tottenham and Rangers have learned who they will face in the league phase of the 2024/25 Europa League.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Rangers have all learned their eight opponents for the league phase of the 2024/25 Europa League.

Much like the Champions League, the Europa League has a new-look format for this season.

The 36 teams are placed into four pots of nine, and each team will face two teams from each of the four pots.

Manchester United, Rangers and Tottenham were all in pot one, meaning they were be drawn out first and then assigned their opponents by the AI supercomputer that handled the draw.

Rangers were drawn out first, and will face both United and Tottenham in the league phase of the competition.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have been presented with a challenging set of fixtures, with matchups against Roma, Galatasaray and Hoffenheim to go along with the Rangers clash.

And Erik ten Hag’s United will also have to get through some tough tests to make it through to the last 16 stage automatically.

United will take on Porto, Rangers and FC Twente among others – while there is also a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho as they face his Fenerbahce side away on matchweek four.

Updates from the live draw can be seen below…

Marchetti now going through exactly how the draw will play out. Not sure this graphic makes it any simpler, to be honest.

Giorgio Marchetti and – surely any minute – Pedro Pinto now here. Time for the draw to get underway.

And the second studio guest is none other than Athletic Bilbao legend Aritz Aduriz, who certainly loved this competition.

He scored 26 goals in 39 games for the Basque side, and is the official UEFA ambassador for the 2025 Europa League final in Bilbao.

Former Sweden and Atalanta midfielder Glenn Stromberg, who won the UEFA Cup with IFK Goteborg in 1982, has now walked on to the stage with the Europa League trophy. Looks like he’s going to be involved in the draw.

Hosts Matt Smith and Reshmin Chowdhury now taking us through the rules of the draw, with a video package playing in the background.

Almost time for the draw
