Patrick Mahomes had quite the game at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback threw for 262 yards, found Rashee Rice eight times for 130 yards and a touchdown, and made several daring runs for key first downs. He also shattered his helmet in the frigid temperatures.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins looked nothing like the same dynamic offense that led the league in yards. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was just 20 of 39 for 199 yards passing with an interception.
Speaking to the media following Kansas City’s 26-7 wild card win, head coach Andy Reid was in the midst of praising Patrick Mahomes while seemingly taking a brutal shot at Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa.
“Patrick had a nice day. I don’t think [the Dolphins] anticipated us throwing the ball as much as we did. A lot of quarterbacks can’t do that in this type of weather.”
Many fans thought Reid took a parting shot at Tua.
The Chiefs get to live with another win in their 15th consecutive home playoff game.
Now, if the Buffalo Bills go out and handle their business in their Wild Card matchup, they will head to Buffalo next week with what will be Patrick Mahomes’ first road playoff game of his career.
Otherwise, the Chiefs will host Houston, which beat the Browns in their wild-card playoff game.
It was minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff, easily setting a record for the coldest game at Arrowhead Stadium. Playing at Buffalo will almost certainly have even worse weather as we have seen with their game being postponed from Sunday to Monday.
