The Reds are already making moves days after the window closed.
Liverpool are already planning their next transfer just days after the summer window closed.
The Reds were quiet in the 2024 summer transfer window, only signing two players to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad in his first season as manager of the club.
Liverpool missed out on Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi early in the window, but signed Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa, with the former immediately sent on loan to former club Valencia.
And now, a new report suggests that the club may already be considering reigniting their interest in a shock player, with one journalist suggesting that that there is a real chance it could still happen.
David Lynch has claimed that despite missing out this summer, the Reds are considering making another move for Zubimendi as it appears that a deal may still be possible.
Speaking about the possibility of a move in January on the Anfield Agenda YouTube channel, Lynch said: “I don’t think that was completely closed off.
“I still think Liverpool will want a number 6 – they’ll want to swap out Endo for someone who fits their profile.
“Liverpool have a very narrow list of targets – and we know Zubimendi ticks so many boxes for them.
“I think there’s a chance there if the player gives the nod and Real Sociedad are willing to let him go that potentially in January it could be reignited. Maybe one to keep an eye on.”
After deciding against a move to Anfield, reports suggested that Zubimendi would be rewarded with a new contract with Real Sociedad, but he reportedly is yet to offered new terms.
The Spanish club have won just one of their four opening matches in the La Liga, with their next match against champions Real Madrid.
Meanwhile Liverpool are unbeaten since starting the 2024/25 Premier League season, scoring seven goals without conceding any across the three matches.

Later in the video, Lynch also provided an update on the situation regarding Mohamed Salah’s contract with Liverpool.
He said: “He’s clearly trying to put the pressure on Richard Hughes and Liverpool because he very much wants to stay – that’s also helpful for Liverpool in negotiations.”
As it stands, the Egyptian’s contract with the Reds is set to expire at the end of the season, but he is yet to speak to the club about any potential extension.
