Earlier this evening, the Florida Panthers defeated the Boston Bruins in heartbreaking fashion as former Blackhawks defenseman Gustav Forsling scored the game-winning goal.
The game-winning goal marked the end of a very tense series between both clubs as the Bruins attempted to tie the series at three games of piece and force a Game 7. For the Bruins, that hill was too high to climb and the Panthers shut the door.
Blackhawks moved Forsling to Hurricanes
The 27-year-old defenseman played his first three seasons of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks where his numbers were not impressive to say the least. He was then traded to the Carolina Hurricanes along with Anton Forsberg in exchange for Calvin de Hann an Aleksi Saarela. Florida claimed him off waivers and then signed a three-year contract worth 8 million per season.
He’s now in the midst of an 8-year $46 million contract with the Panthers and had a great season as he played 79 games, scoring 10 goals with 29 assists for 39 points but was a eye popping plus 56.
The Panthers now will take on the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference final and players like Forsling will continue to be vital in their push to win a Stanley Cup.
