Mackie went on to criticize one of the most beloved franchises, saying that Harry Potter movies did not have any prominent Black actors and thus lacked representation.

The recently announced Harry Potter TV adaptation is reportedly prioritizing diversity this time around, according to industry insider Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast. According to Sneider, there has been a “concerted effort” to cast “more people of color” in the series, which has grand ambitions to recast all seven books. He added that “some Harry Potter writers” who worked on the series might possibly be people of color. Sneider especially mentioned the possibility of a person of colour portraying Hermione Granger in the next series.
