“He will say anything”: Fast X Director Just Debunked Vin Diesel’s Bold-Faced ‘Fast 11’ Lie

It seems that Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel lied to fans to get out of an interview after confirming that there will be a trilogy happening after Fast X. He previously revealed that there could be two more Fast movies coming up in the future.

While this sounds like an exaggeration on Diesel’s part, the news created a lot of buzz on social media. For a short while, it was believed that Fast X would be the beginning of a final saga, which co-star Michelle Rodriguez also seemed to confirm in the same interview.

Director Louis Letterier Clarified Vin Diesel’s Fast X Trilogy Statement

Attending the Rome red carpet for Fast X last May, Vin Diesel told Fandango some exciting details about the future of the long-enduring action franchise:
I can say this: going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter, and after the studio saw this and when they saw part one, they said, ‘Could we make Fast X the finale, a trilogy?’

Co-star Michelle Rodriguez supplemented Diesel’s statement with a short yet promising revelation: “It’s three acts in any story.” Director Louis Letterier, who is currently helming Fast 11, seemingly debunked the actor’s claim in an interview with GamesRadar:

The one thing about Vin is like when he’s on a press line, he will say anything to get out of that press line. And I’m kind of like him and go, ‘Yeah, sure, we will go to the moon in the next one. Bye.’ And then you [the press] never forget!

Letterier noted that Fast 11 is certainly coming, but they have to take every project day by day. Working in the movie industry entails a lot of patience, and one film gets done through daily progress. The filmmaker added:

Obviously the next one is coming, and then yeah, one movie at a time. I think the one thing that Hollywood keeps reminding us is that it’s one step at a time, put one foot forward at a time. Let’s count our blessings. We’re very lucky this movie was well-received and well-loved, people went to see it in a movie theater, and now they’re going to see it at home. It’s one at a time.”
The 50-year-old French director and producer admitted that they are still trying to figure out how to tell the conclusion to the epic action saga in the best possible way, hinting that two movies may actually not be enough to fully flesh out the narrative they wanted to tell:
Maybe what he was saying is that there’s 25 years of filmmaking and storytelling, three acts, two hours, and two movies, between the last one and this one, might not be enough to tell the story that is needed, and that’s what we’re figuring out these days.”
While Letterier did not confirm Diesel’s shocking revelation about the franchise, he also did not entirely disregard the possibility of it happening in the future. Fans will still have to wait a bit longer for an official announcement.

Louis Letterier On Working With Vin Diesel In Fast X

Fast XFast X
Louis Letterier only joined the franchise during the filming for Fast X after original director Justin Lin abandoned the project, but he and Diesel immediately grew close and developed a strong partnership. In the same interview, he shared what it is like working with the Guardians of the Galaxy actor:
It’s much more than just a fantastic actor doing a fantastic job, coming on set, being active, and embodying this character. He really carries this $7 billion franchise on his already massive shoulders. Every actor that comes on board is in awe of his professionalism and his generosity, like he’ll come on set the days he’s not shooting, just to make sure that everybody’s happy.”
Vin Diesel is very hands-on when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the creative production, and together with Letterier, the entire team will surely deliver an eye-popping finale in true Fast & Furious fashion.

Fast 11, also known as Fast X Part 2, is slated for an April 2025 release. Fast X is available to purchase via Prime Video, iTunes, and Vudu.
