Caitlin Clark condemns racist ‘trolls’ threatening WNBA players
Caitlin Clark once again found herself being questioned about online trolls.
Once again, she condemned them.
At the Fever’s exit press conference on Friday, Clark was asked about the “racism” that players in the WNBA endure online.
“It’s definitely upsetting. Nobody in our league should be facing any sort of racism — hurtful, disrespectful, hateful comments and threats. Those aren’t fans, those are trolls, and it’s a real disservice to the people in our league, the organization, the WNBA,” Clark said.

“But there are a lot of really good fans, whether they’ve been fans for 20-plus years, or whether they’re new fans in our league. I think continuing to uplift this league in a very positive light is the best thing that we can do because there are so many great players. There are so many great teams. There are so many positive storylines that can be written and celebrated, and for me that’s why I became a fan of this league.
“These people were my idols. I grew up wanting to be like them, so I think continuing to uplift and represent this league in a positive way is the best thing that we can do going forward.”
In June, Clark also denounced anybody who was “weaponizing” her name.
Over the last week, players around the WNBA have been speaking out that they have been targeted by online vitriol.
The league also condemned what has been happening.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) possesses the ball during the first half against the Connecticut Sun during Game 2 of the first round of the 2024 WNBA Playoffs at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Clark has not been immune to it either, online or in person — during Game 2 against the Sun on Wednesday, she pointed a fan out to officials for an apparent vulgar remark that earned him a reprimand from Mohegan Sun Arena security.
The Fever were eliminated from the WNBA playoffs by the Sun after losing Game 2.
