In the main event of Submission Underground 13, Australian grappling sensation Craig Jones squared up against MMA veteran and ADCC champion Vinny Magalhaes on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

Craig Jones attacked Vinny Magalhaes with what looked to be a fully applied inside heel hook just a few seconds into the bout. To the surprise of many viewers, Magalhaes refused to tap and left the position with his foot turned 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Magalhaes was trapped in the duplicate submission a short while later but managed to break free again.

However, Magalhaes’ leg had already sustained damage. In the middle of the contest, Jones and Magalhaes exchanged words, with Jones appearing uncertain about whether to keep attacking Magalhaes’ leg. Magalhaes then verbally submitted, admitting Jones’ leg locks hurt him.

Recently, Craig Jones was asked about the incident during his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience. Four years later, Jones shares his point of view about the situation they faced. Jones says,” That was disgusting. It still haunts me.” Joe Rogan soon throws another question at Jones, asking how his opponent kept going: “ How the f*** did he keep going and why?”

Craig answered how it is still possible for fighters to keep up with the fight even after having endured injury. Craig told the podcast host, “You just got to be careful, Thats why I try to be careful with what I say. I am never going to be like, leg locks don’t work because, like, he got put in a leg lock in 20 seconds, and his leg broke.”

Magalhães’s valiant demeanor would not carry him to victory in the struggle. With five minutes remaining, Vinny asked for the match to end. He was not in danger, but he was obviously in pain. The Brazilian showed fantastic bravery and pain tolerance, and Jones, still unbeaten on the SUG platform, won convincingly.
