Boilermakers’ big man Zach Edey shares insights on NBA Draft Combine experience
Zach Edey is among the 78 draft prospects showcasing their skills at the ongoing NBA draft Combine in Chicago. The center has been one of the biggest winners of this week as he was able to fully display his strengths to the scouts and NBA teams present.
Later, during the media circuit, Edey spoke with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, who asked Edey what he was able to show at the Combine.
“I can shoot … initiate offense a little bit,” Edey said. “I can do things I wasn’t able to do at Purdue. I’ve never played out my role in Purdue. But I feel like there was some things I could do that I was able to show today.
Zach Edey wa
s also present at the NBA Combine last year, while he was still unsure of his moves. He still wanted to achieve more in college, but at the same time, he wanted to move to the NBA as well. In the end, Edey chose to return to Purdue for a final season.
The center is also well aware of what his strengths and weaknesses are and is willing to work on molding his game to the pro level.
“A team would be drafting me for who I am,” he said. (via The Athletic) “I think I can get there but right now they’re not drafting me for, like, pick-and-pop shoot 3s. Right now they’re drafting me to get in the paint, get rebounds, protect the paint.
“Obviously, you saw in my shooting drills I can shoot. I can do stuff like that if you ask me to. But it all just comes down to what the team asks me to do at the end of the day.”
Zach Edey’s draft projection
Per the latest mock draft, CBS Sports predicts Zach Edey to go as the No. 24 pick to the New York Knicks while Bleacher Report puts him at No. 23, heading to the Milwaukee Bucks. The NBA Draft Room projected Edey as a No. 13 pick and playing for the Sacramento Kings.
Zach Edey impressed the teams with his lane agility, three-quarter sprint, max vertical leap, and standing vertical leap. He came ahead of Donovan Clingan, who is considered as Edey’s biggest competitor in the draft.
The center measurement came out at 7-foot-3.75 without shoes and a 7-foot-10.75 wingspan. He has a 9-foot-7 standing reach.
